To many people, lacrosse is just another sport. But to those who love the game, it is a way of life. Lacrosse is not just a constructive way to exert energy, but all around a great sport to teach camaraderie, discipline, and structure.

Lacrosse was first brought to North America in the 1630s. Since then, the mission of the game has shifted drastically. According to history, the game was once played to settle inner-tribal disputes- so why do we play today?

A game dependent on speed and stamina, there are seemingly endless health benefits that come along with playing the sport. Lacrosse enhances coordination, agility, and rational decision making, and helps to build cardiovascular endurance. Each game is a full-body workout and on average, each player burns around 500 calories per hour of play.

Although physical health and endurance are high-ranking reasons to play, it’s important to recognize the mental health benefits. Those who participate in intense physical activity typically have a healthier way of releasing anxiety and depression.

Playing a team sport like lacrosse puts an emphasis on socialization and teamwork. This teaches players how to overcome obstacles, a skill that can be used in everyday life.
